While Christmas is easily my most favorite time of the year, I am all about Halloween when it comes to card crafting. I decided I wanted to use items from the La La Land Crafts Sweets Release to create a Halloween scene for Marci.
I started by stamping my Candyland Marci stamp onto white cardstock and coloring her in blacks, whites, and reds. This was to be my primary color palette for the whole card. Listed below are the colors I used for Marci.
- Marci Face: E13, E11, E21, E30, E000 and Prismacolor PC 928 for her cheeks
- Marci Hair: W9, W7, W5. W3
- Marci Dress and Boots: N9, N7, N5, and N2, N1, white gel pen for the sparkles
- Ribbons and Tights: R59, R29, R27, R24
- Candy: R59, R29, R27 and V09, V17, V15, V12 and YG17, YG25, YG01
After fussing cutting Marci out, I set her aside and started on my background. I die cut pieces from the Candy Cart die set using light gray card stock for the main areas and Brushed Black cardstock for use in the canopy and bunting. I actually made several die cuts of the gray so I could layer certain pieces to create depth and dimension with the cart. I used Black Soot and Hickory Smoke Oxide inks to ink-blend color the wheels, cart counter, and cart supports, and I also colored the negative die cut of my cart window so I could create a backdrop to feature the candy jars. For the canopy and bunting, I used Candy Apple Oxide inks to color the negative die cuts of the canopy and some of the bunting flags followed by a coating with my shimmer pen to create a little sparkle, which I then paired with the Brushed Black die cuts.
Once my cart was assembled, I focused on the candy jars .The jars were assembled from white card stock as the base, solid colored cardstock for the candies which were glued to the base, vellum for the fronts of the jars glued at the top and bottom of each base, and Brushed Silver cardstock for the jar bottoms and lids, which also hid the glue peeking out from the vellum. This was a LOT of detail die and glue work, but the effect was worth it. They look like real glass jars.
For the rest of the scene, I cut grass using the Lawn Border die which I also ink-blended in Black Soot and Hickory Smoke and finished off with some black watercolor spatters. I next cut several Leafy Vines from the Brushed Black card stock and I pulled a fun black and white pattern paper from the Note to Self Paper Pack for use as my background. This paper pack is easily my most used pattern paper set of all time as it contains such a wide variety of graphic paper designs I can use with any type of card. Lastly, I stamped out a “You’re THE SWEETEST” sentiment included with the Candyland Marci stamp set onto a label from the Scalloped Sentiment Labels die set.
This card is both lovely and a little spooky and I really hope you enjoy it.
