Altenew August Release Blog Hop

Hello everyone! The amazing August Release from Altenew is here and to celebrate Altenew is hosting a Blog Hop with multiple prizes.   I am so lucky to be included in this release as there are so many amazing products available this month.  To kick things off, I will be sharing two cards featuring the new Bright Bloom Layering Die Set.

SUPPLIES: CARD 1

BACKGROUND:

For my background I wanted to keep everything bright and sunny for summer.  I first masked off the edges of a white 100lb A2 panel ½” on each side.  I then ink-blended the center using Dew Drops and Ocean Waves from the Sweet Dreams Fresh Dye Ink Collection.

DIES:

I die-cut all of my elements, 4 times each, from the Bright Bloom Layering Die Set from 80lb white cardstock. Next, I die-cut leaves and twigs using the Zero-Waste: Autumn Leaves Die, running it through twice to ensure I had enough elements for my design.  I then ink-blended all of my blooms using inks from the Citrus Punch and Coffee Break fresh dye Ink collections and all of my leaves from the Jade Dreams collection.  Once my ink-blending was dry, I assembled the blooms using the layering guide found on the back of the packaging.

ASSEMBLY:

I attached my four blooms in a diagonal layout from bottom left to the top as shown.  I then die-cut a “Thanks” sentiment from the Stencil Art: Strong Oak Add-On Die using dark brown cardstock from my stash.  I cut and stacked a few extra layers for added dimension.  To finish everything off I added a few Enamel Dots and attached my panel to a white A2 folding card-base.

SUPPLIES: CARD 2

BACKGROUND:

For my card, I wanted to both lean into Fall and to mix up my card shape.  I started with a square panel, 5” a side cut, from 100lb white card stock.   Using masking tape, I masked off all 4 sides ½” from each edge.   Next, I used the new Checkerboard Tiles Stencil to stencil an hombre background using the Sun-Kissed Delights Fresh Dye Inks.

DIES:

I die-cut all of my pieces, 2 times each, from the Bright Bloom Layering Die Set using 80lb white cardstock. I also die-cut leaves from the new Crispy Leaves Die Set and twigs from the older Branched Frames Die Set.      I then ink-blended all of my blooms using inks from the Citrus Punch and Coffee Break Fresh Dye Ink collections and all of my leaves from the Fall Harvest and Sun-Kissed Delights collections.   I also used two green inks, Sagestone and Green Onyx, found from the 2024 Cozy Comfort retreat.  Be on the lookout, as these inks should be coming soon.

For my leaves I blended several of my colors so my leaves resembled true Fall leaves in various stages of change.  I also added a little brown splatter using my Espresso re-inker.   Once my ink-blending was dry, I assembled the flowers using the layering guide found on the back of the packaging.

ASSEMBLY:

I arranged my leaves and blooms into a cluster at the lower left corner of my card panel as shown.  I attached each element with both glue and thick and thin foam tape for movement and dimension.  I finished everything off with a simple sentiment strip that was gold heat-embossed onto black cardstock, before mounting my finished panel on a dark green mat measuring 5.5” x 5.5”.  Finally, I then glued everything to a square folding card-base and my card was complete.

  1. The Bright Bloom Layering set looks so nice with the addition of leaves and branches-and especially on the Checkerboard Tiles stencil. Sometimes we forget that we can mix and match florals with leaves from other sets. Putting them a a nice ink blended background or a stenciled one really gives them a wonderful place to land.
